Laser hardening

LaserTherm provides comprehensive services connected to the laser hardening of steel and cast-iron components. For this purpose it uses the latest robotic systems distinguished by high productivity, precision, efficiency and reliability.

Laser hardening technology is suitable for the selective hardening of irregular or complex workpieces, inner or hard-to-reach surfaces, openings or grooves, and leading or shearing edges, especially where high precision and low thermal deformation are required. This method is efficient both for single-purpose machine components or devices and for mass production.

Unlike conventional methods, the laser beam intensively warms only the outer layer (case) of the substrate to just below the melting temperature, while the surrounding material maintains the ambient temperature. The heat introduced by a laser to the outer layers dissipates to the core material of a component. This self-quenching effect forms a very hard martensitic structure in the outer layers, while the core strength of a component remains intact. LaserTherm uses only robot-operated laser systems to ensure the precise processing of intended surfaces and lines.
